GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS MANAGER
MICROSOFT NEPA (NORTH AFRICA, EAST MED AND PAKISTAN)

Microsoft is recruiting a senior professional to manage corporate affairs work in the North Africa, East Mediterranean and Pakistan (NEPA) region of its business in Middle East and Africa (MEA). The professional will act as general advisor to the business leadership in NEPA on government, industry and corporate affairs issues and will coordinate coverage across the business locations operated in the region. The position will report to the Regional Corporate Affairs Lead for MEA, and also work closely with the LCA Director for Middle East and Africa. The position will also have “dotted line” reporting responsibilities to the NEPA General Manager.

The successful candidate will have at least ten years relevant experience in the areas of public policy, and government affairs. A combination of public and private sector work experience would be preferable. Experience and/or relationships with key government officials is a plus. Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required; fluency in French is strongly preferred and Arabic is a plus.

Reporting to: Regional Corporate Affairs Lead, MEA LCA (legal and corporate affairs)

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

• Developing, orchestrating and implementing, in partnership with key stakeholder groups in the Company, strategic outreach strategies and campaigns to positively shape the debate and public policy outcomes on issues important to the ICT industry. These issues include online and software ecosystem growth and development, privacy, ICT security, intellectual property rights protection, competition law, and trade and market access.
• Working in close partnership with the Company’s public relations team to develop effective internal and external communications strategies.
• Supporting the Public Sector business through engagement with government departments, mapping of account influentials and development and implementation of strategies to support the revenue and growth objectives of this segment.
• Externally representing the Company in small and large group settings to promote the Company’s and the industry’s position on important public policy issues.
• Working closely with the Microsoft leadership team in market to keep them well informed on public policy issues, debates and trends and providing proactive advice on the impact and relevance of these issues to the Company’s businesses. Directing the external engagement of the leadership team as it relates to outreach on public policy issues.
• Being a leading voice for the Company in (and building and strengthening the Company’s relationship with) industry partners, trade associations, advocacy organizations, multi-lateral organizations, and industry coalitions to more effectively shape and advance the industry’s position on important public policy issues.
• Championing the Company’s values and the highest ethical standards in the conduct of Microsoft’s business and engagement with government customers and officials
• Identifying new and emerging legal and regulatory issues that may affect Microsoft’s businesses in the region. Coordinating with internal and external legal and non-legal expert resources, as necessary, to help analyze and address such issues in the implementation of the company’s business strategy.
• Implementing an effective measurement and analysis approach for campaigns that will support prioritization of activities and investments.
• Working with the Regional Standards Officer to engage and manage relationships with regional Standards bodies.

Candidate Profile

Key Experience:

•A minimum of ten years of relevant professional activity, preferably in MEA.

•Experience in building and managing relationships with key government officials.

•A combination of private and public sector work experience.

•A strong understanding of business issues and thinking, preferably in the IT sector.

•A proven record of cross-group collaboration.

Qualifications

•Minimum of 5 year studies at university in the areas of law, economics, communications, political science, international affairs or equivalent is strongly preferred.

•Education in public administration (preferred).

•Excellent written and spoken and English.

•Fluency in French is strongly preferred and Arabic is an advantage.

- Must have experience with purchasing, inventory, ordering and receiving.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

- Sanitation Certification preferred.
