Shahbaz warns against point scoring on terrorism

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Friday warned against point scoring on terrorism and stressed the need for devising a joint counter terrorism strategy by sitting together, Geo News reported. He said this during his meeting with members of Punjab Assembly from various districts. Shahbaz Sharif said Pakistan is fighting a war of survival against terrorism. “The country today needs much more harmony and unity than it did in the past,” he said, instructing the MPAs to stay in close contact with the people and pay their undivided attention towards solution of their problems.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has sought response from the government about complying the court orders pertaining to the removal of contract police officials including DG FIA, Geo News reported on Friday. The larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary conducted the hearing of Hajj scandal case. The Chief Justice in his remarks, said the court knew that its independent decision were not being liked as culture was changing, adding that court had to carry out its duty at any cost. Secretary Establishment presented the list of contract officials working in 22 federal ministries and its subordinate departments while sought time for bringing the list of 24 other offices.(GEO URDU)

KARACHI: Violence erupted in different parts of the metropolis Thursday night, Geo News reported. Miscreants came out streets in Boat Basin area of Clifton started indiscriminate firing and also set two buses on fire before fleeing. Two persons were injured as a result of firing in Lyari and Mauripur areas. Reports of firing incidents were received from different parts of the city including Lyari, Garden, Mauripur, Sachal Goth and Malir.

LAHORE: IG Punjab Javed Iqbal said the militant network behind the Faisalabad blast has been traced but this group has no connection with Punjabi Taliban, Geo News reported. The police chief said one suspect was arrested from the spot and upon his information two of his associates were also apprehended, which eventually led to the whole network. The group, he maintained, wanted to the target offices of secret agencies. However, when asked as to which group might be involved in this activity, the IG said it”s premature to establish something in this regard.
